Parent Resources/Services

Grove City Area School District wants to ensure parents and families have access to services and resources should the need arise. Below is a listing of services, resources, and organizations that assist students as they pursue their education.

Accelerated Reader

The purpose of AR (Accelerated Reader) is to reinforce reading practice by reading books that are at a “just right” level for each student. Students then take a quiz on the computer to check for comprehension. See more, at left.

Fluency

The success of a literacy program at school partly depends on the literacy support at home. Children in classrooms that practice fluency at home have shown a greater improvement in reading fluency than children that do not practice at home. See more, at left.

Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV

Based in Grove City, MIU IV is one of 29 intermediate units in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. MIU IV serves school districts and vo-tech schools in Butler, Lawrence, and Mercer Counties.

Spelling Words & Note to Parents

Spelling words are crucial for students at every grade level. At the link on the left, see details on spelling words for each grade level at Hillview.

State Parent Advisory Council

Created in 1990 by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE), the State Parent Advisory Council (SPAC) includes parents of children who participate in Title I programs. The council has three (3) goals:
  • To give parents the skills and knowledge to become advocates for Title I children.
  • To distribute information and share ideas that will increase parent participation in Title I programs.
  • To identify successful parent involvement programs that can become models for schools with limited parent involvement.

The PEAL Center

PEAL works with families, youth and young adults with disabilities and special health care needs to help them understand their rights and advocate for themselves. With offices in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, PEAL has been in action since 2005.
